A Portable Sawmill Success Story

By: Charles Kennedy, Renick, WV

I would like to tell you a little about me and my experiences with my MP30 Sawmill.

Upon my retirement in 1998 I purchased a small farm in Renick, WV. I am a firm believer in staying active as you get older (I am 58). I was looking for something that I could work at part-time and found several ads in magazines for different bandmills. After getting information on ten different machines and receiving Cooks video on sawmilling I was sold on the strength and price of your machine.

I placed an order for an MP30 and it was ready three days earlier than promised. I’ve been using this machine for two and a half years now. I have cut in excess of 300,000 board foot to date. The largest log I’ve cut so far is a 48” x 16’ red oak. The largest job to date is a log cabin 22,000 board foot.

When I was setting up for a log cabin job I received two other jobs from people stopping to watch. My best customer is a business that recycles old barns. This work pays me $30 per hour.

The maintenance on my machine has been only two bearings on the roller guides and one set of V Belts for the band wheels. The belts were received from you the day after calling to place the order.

I commend you for your prompt and courteous service. My business has reached a point where a hydraulic machine may be in my future. Your machine will be my first choice.

I remember when Mr. Kennedy came to pick up his mill. Some of us were working late and had gotten some pizza. He got here a little late so we fed him some pizza before he got his mill. I remember we put larger tires on the mill because he thought that would be better for towing in general and would be helpful when he had travel around swampy places. At the time we were using 12.8 inch small trailer tires. Since then we have made a few changes to the mill so that a larger tire doesn't get in the way when making our final cut on a cant. After making these changes we use thirteen inch tires on all the MP32 mills. They are much larger and they really look and work nice. We are continually making improvements anywhere we can. That is a goal that we keep before us. Build the best machine at an excellent price. Quality, service, and price is why we continually are able to produce
